The Kings County Federation of Agriculture (KCFA) wants to ensure county schools have healthy local snacks for students supplied by local farmers.

The board recently gave a donation of $2,000 to the Farm to School Healthy Snack Program, covering two years support for the program.

“Every student should be able to eat healthy and their parents should not have worry about the cost,” says president Hank Bosveld, a vegetable and berry producer in the Valley.

The Healthy Snack program was started a few years ago to try and bring local farmers together with the schools to ensure healthy snack that are available to all students.  KCFA has been on board from the initial startup of the program.

The menu varies depending on what produce is available at the time of year.

The federation meets the second Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Kentville Research Station.  All members are welcome.
