Once again, Kingston’s Friends of the Village are inviting residents of Western Kings County to come out and show their support for community development.
For the past eight years, the volunteer group has hosted a fall dinner and auction, originally to raise funds for Kingston’s downtown improvement project. The annual dinners raised over $50,000, used to augment ACOA funding for new paving, sidewalks, curbing and lighting in Kingston’s downtown core.
With the completion of that work, group chairwoman Muriel Craig says the time is right to support other local initiatives. Proceeds from this year’s dinner, Oct. 16 at the Kingston Legion, will benefit the Western Kings Arena, struggling with its debt for several years now, and the building committee of Branch 98 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Kingston, currently planning for a new facility.
“These are two very important groups in our community, and we hope everyone will come out, enjoy the supper and have some fun at the auction to show their support,” says Craig.
Roast pork with all the trimmings is on the menu. The popular jelly cupboard is back, as is the popular homemade pie auction. Auction item viewing begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and may be obtained at the Legion, or by calling 765-8605.
