The Kings RCMP has confirmed a New Year’s Eve bomb threat at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre in Waterville was a hoax.

Const. Blair MacMurtery said the bomb threat was made at about 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 31. They went through the standard operational process and protocol for a bomb threat at the facility, which was quickly locked down.

“There was no event that would interfere with the community with this particular threat,” MacMurtery said.

The RCMP conducted searches for explosives with a service dog, but nothing was detected. They looked for suspicious packages and made sure the outside of the facility was secure.

No charges will be laid, as police couldn’t confirm where the call came from and they were unable to identify a culprit through their investigation.
