The June 18 Western Kings Arena Charity Golf Classic raised close to $16,000 for Kingston’s community rink and wrapped up with the announcement of a dressing room renovation partnership initiative.
Wayne Fowler, past president of the Western Kings Arena Association (WKAA), reported, after all the bills were paid, the tournament ended up raising just shy of $16,000.
The day was filled with many memorable moments, including Shawn Scotney shooting a flawless hole-in-one on 15, winning himself a 2010 Toyota Yaris, courtesy of Best Toyota.
On the second hole there was a car donated by Freemans Auto placed to “Hit it and Win it”, but, after all failed attempts by the golfers, Scott Freeman donated it for auction and further showed his support for the arena by buying it back while it was on the auction block.
The tournament also provided a backdrop for the announcement of a new dressing room renovation partnership initiative that will see five local businesses pool resources to give the arena’s dressing rooms a much-needed facelift. This will involve structural work, new painting and plumbing upgrades. While no dollar amount was attached Fowler anticipates it will be in “the multiple thousands.” Community partners in the project are Rafuse Mechanical, Frasers Pro Home Centre, Averys Farm Markets, T&S Office Essentials and JC’s Hot Tubs and Pools.
