The Central Kings senior boys’ hockey team will host its annual Gator Classic Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

The venue for the classic, one of several tournaments hosted during the season by Valley High School Hockey League teams, will be the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick, site of all the Gators’ home games.

Joining host CK in the tournament field will be Horton, West Kings, NKEC and Middleton, which should make for some great action for local fans.

Ecole Par en Bas from Yarmouth County was supposed to compete as well, but had to drop out, leaving a five-team event and necessitating some minor changes in the schedule.

“We’re excited with the caliber of teams competing in our tournament this year,” says Gators’ head coach David Allen. “It should make for some fast action and rekindle some friendly competition among local rivals.”

The tournament gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday with Central Kings taking on NKEC, the current VHSHL leaders. The rest of Friday evening’s schedule has West Kings meeting Horton at 7 p.m. and Middleton playing NKEC at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, NKEC and Horton play at 10 a.m., CK and Middleton at noon. West Kings and NKEC at 2 p.m., CK and Horton at 4 p.m. and Middleton and West Kings at 6 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule sees Middleton and Horton meet at 1 p.m., followed by Central Kings and West Kings at 3 p.m. The top two teams in the round robin will meet in the tournament final, beginning at 6 p.m.

Regardless of the final result, Allen is expecting “a good weekend of hockey.”
