The NKEC senior girls' and boys' basketball teams were both in action Dec. 18 on their home court in Canning. The NKEC girls took on Barrington in a Western Region match, and the NKEC boys followed with a Valley league game against West Kings. Above left, NKEC's Emily Stacey looks for a shot in traffic during the girls' game. Above right, NKEC's Liam Russell drives on Calvin Mills of West Kings. In the girls' game, NKEC got 15 points form Chloe Corkum, 14 from Stacey and 12 from Dominique Foote in a 52-28 win in a game that was closer than the final score would suggest. At one point in the third quarter, NKEC led by only six points before finishing strong. In the boys' game, the Titans led 45-26 at halftime, only to have West Kings roar back to tie the score before NKEC finally prevailed by a margin of around 12 points. Final scoring stats were unavailable, but Russell finished with 27 points for NKEC, 19 in the first half, while Cooper Kelly had 18 of his 26 points for West Kings in the second half. - John DeCoste
