PORT WILLIAMS, NS – There is going to be a Terry Fox Weekend coming up Sept. 16 - 17 in Port Williams.
Organizers, like Tim Duguay and Sean Dixon, say they are very excited that on Saturday Terry’s brother, Fred Fox, will be on hand for the warm up event.
The event they are calling Terry’s Warm up starts with registration at 8:30 a.m. The run/walk begins at 9 a.m.
Parking and the events before and after will be held at the Port Williams Community Centre on Main Street.
According to Dixon, the starting line for the run/walk will be the Port Pub’s over flow parking lot, 980 Terry’s Creek Rd.
The Saturday event is in preparation for the over 60 Terry Fox runs scheduled across Nova Scotia on Sunday.
Duguay says, “we invite you to come and warm up with a walk or run with our guest of honour, Fred Fox.”
As Terry’s older brother, Fred had a front row seat to Canadian history as he watched Terry prepare for his Marathon of Hope and spent several days with him over the summer of 1980.
From 1994 to 2001, he fulfilled the role of provincial director of the BC/Yukon Terry Fox Foundation office. In 2010, he accepted the role of manager of supporter relations for the foundation, which links him directly to volunteers and donors across Canada.
He stays very busy travelling across Canada and sharing his memories and his message of hope about Terry and the Terry Fox Foundation.
The Sunday Terry Fox Run will start at 10 a.m. from the community centre. Registration begins a half hour earlier.
Duguay says walkers, bike, wheelchairs, rollerblades, and dogs are welcome. The run is a two km loop.
