GREENWICH, N.S. – The Spinney Brothers are travelling no more. The popular band is performing its last show  Oct 15.

Rick Spinney says fans from Ontario, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Massachusetts are coming to hear " Canada's International Bluegrass Band" play on the Horton High School stage one last time.
After a long and successful career in bluegrass music, including seven years of full time touring across North America, Rick says, “we will be closing this chapter of our lives where it all began at Horton.
“Although this is a new school, the memories still lie in the spirit of the student body and supporting fans that came out back in 1987 and of course, all through the years,” says Rick.
Continual touring got to be too taxing for the foursome, he notes, adding that his guilt at leaving two sons and his wife, Machaela, at home was increasing.
Rick recalls sneaking out of the house at 3 a.m. to catch a plane and hearing young Kacey bawling his eyes out.
“I love doing what I do and I’ve been fortunate to have so much joy in the music, but it’s not fair to be carrying so much guilt.”
Touring takes a physical toll too, = Rick says, “we’ve had a great run. I’m so proud of what we accomplished. I think we represented ourselves, our province and our town and set a standard.”
Rick intends taking a break from music for a while, but he says it won’t be forever. Fans seem to be one solid reason.
“We connected with so many people,” he says. “I think we carried our personality out on the road and we were approachable.”
Tickets for the concert featuring Rick, Allan Spinney, Gary Dalrymple and Terry Mumford are $15. Machaela Taylor Spinney and five-year-old Kacey will make a special appearance.
The concert will take place at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are available at Long & McQuade in New Minas.
