Concerns about potential salmonella contaminations have prompted a recall of Europe's Best brand Field Berry Mixes.
The recall issued by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency July 13 pertains to 600 g and 2 kg packages of the frozen fruit. The product codes on the 600 g packages impacted by the recall are: 2020MA03, 2020MA04, 2020MA10 and 2020MA11. The product code for the affected 2 kg 4-Field Berry Mix reads 2020MA02.
Products matching these descriptions should be discarded or returned to the store where the purchase was made.
The recalling firm is Hain Celestial Canada, ULC.
A statement issued by Health Canada says the recall was the result of a recall issued in another country, and The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is investigating.
“If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings,” the Health Canada statement reads.
“The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.”
Health Canada’s recall alert indicates that there have not been any illnesses reported as a result of consumption of the recalled products, but any health concerns that could potentially be linked to the products should be reported to a doctor right away.
“Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections,” the statement reads.
“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.”
