WINDSOR, N.S. — Windsor town council wants to see the province change the name of Highway 101 between Halifax and Windsor to recognize the area’s rich hockey history.
During Windsor council’s committee of the whole meeting Dec. 12, Mayor Anna Allen made a motion to ask the provincial government to rename the highway section as Hockey Way.
The change to Hockey Way would likely come with corresponding highway signage, similar to the existing Harvest Highway signage near St. Croix.
Coun. Shelley Bibby initially objected to the name ‘Hockey Way,’ suggesting it didn’t roll off the tongue, but the motion was passed unanimously.
Allen suggested the existing Harvest Highway signage would still apply to further up the highway, beyond Windsor.
The motion will need to be approved by regular council on Dec. 19, 2017 before a letter requesting the change can be sent to the province.
