Workshops for kids of a variety of age groups are being offered at the Wolfville Library this summer. They include:
Ages seven to 11
Create a website - July 22, 24 and 26, 10 a.m.-noon. Using Microsoft Publisher, learn the basics of web design. Create content, pictures and backgrounds and kids will leave the camp with a website of their own.
Lego Stop-motion Movie - July 29, 31 and Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-noon. Become a director, writer and editor. Participants will design a set and characters with Lego and create a story. Using a camera and a computer, they’ll have a part in making a Lego movie.
Claymation Movie – Aug. 19, 21 and 23, 10 a.m.-noon. More stop-motion fun, but this time with clay. Participants will shape and mold a world and its characters, then take photos and combine them into a movie of their own creation.
Photo Manipulation – July 8, 10 and 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., or Aug. 6-8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will learn some Photoshop tricks, how to edit pictures so they can breathe fire, have snakes for arms or join your favorite movie.
3D Modeling with SketchUp – Aug. 12, 14 and 16, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Learn to use Google SketchUp and create your own 3D model. Make an action figure, a model vehicle or a house... the possibilities are endless. Then print or "produce" the creation.
Workshops For Adults
Buy and Sell on Kijiji – July 25, 6-7:30 p.m. Learn about the “online yardsale” Kijiji. Browse through the listings, send messages and post your own ads. The class will also cover some safety tips for buying and selling online.
Ancestry.com – Aug. 1, 6-7:30 p.m. Do you have ancestor or relatives that you’ve been wondering about? Trying to find information on them? In this workshop, you’ll learn about Ancestry.com and how to search through their database for your family members from long ago.
3D Modeling with SketchUp – Aug. 15, 6-7:30 p.m. Learn to use Google SketchUp and create a 3D model. Make a prototype, a figurine or a trinket, then have it printed.
eBooks and eReaders – Aug. 22, 6-7:30 p.m. Come in with your eReader and learn how to download books for free using Overdrive, the library’s digital collection. Other questions and issues can also be discussed. Note: this workshop is unable to support or offer help for the Kindle.
