In their 2015 home opener, the Axemen fell behind 3-1 early, but exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning. Acadia batted around in the sixth, led by right fielder Mark McPhee’s two home runs and four RBI.

Shortstop Mark Matyas, an all-Canadian last season, added three RBI in the sixth to finish with four RBI in all.

On the mound, Andrew Chase, Sam Byers and Wes Harding combined to allow the Tigers just four hits. Harding ended up the winning pitcher.

The victory improved Acadia’s season record to two wins and one loss, with all three games the Axemen have played so far being against Dalhousie.

On Sept. 12, the Axemen and Tigers split a doubleheader, with Acadia winning the first game 10-9 and Dalhousie prevailing 6-3 in the second game.

A scheduled doubleheader Sept. 13 at St. F.X. had to be postponed due to rain and wet field conditions.

Acadia is scheduled to meet Holland College in a doubleheader Sept. 19 in Kentville, with games set for 1 and 3:30 p.m. UNB will be in town Sept. 20 for another doubleheader, with games once again at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
