A group of Maritime baseball players won a national championship Tuesday night in Toronto.
The Maritime squad, including three Kings County players – Coldbrook’s Jake Lonar and Kentville Senior Wildcats’ players Colby Turple and Codey Shrider - defeated Quebec Blue 7-4 in the inaugural Tournament 12 at Rogers Centre.
The tournament consisted of 10 teams, including three from Ontario and two from Quebec. The event features the top 230 college-eligible players from Canada who were invited to take part.
The Maritime team went 3-1 in the preliminary round and defeated Quebec (White) 4-0 in the semifinal earlier Tuesday.
The event was hosted by the Blue Jays Baseball Academy, in collaboration with Blue Jays Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar.
