The Acadia Axemen scored 29 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Mount Allison Mounties 40-10 Saturday in university football action.
The win improves the Axemen to 5-1 and sets up a first-place showdown next Saturday in Wolfville between the Axemen and Saint Mary’s Huskies (5-1). The loss drops the Mounties to 0-6.
The Acadia ground attack and defence led the way against Mount Allison. The Axemen ran for twice as many yards (234) as the Mounties (116) while the defence only gave up 154 total yards in front of Homecoming crowd of 2,746.
Zack Skibin led the running backs, gaining 170 yards on 21 carries while Zack Clarke added 50 yards on 11 carries for the Axemen.
Kyle Graves was 11 of 21 for 176 yards and two majors. Skibin, Graves and Holden Morales each had rushing touchdowns.
Michael Squires caught four passes to lead the receivers while Taylor Renaud and A.J. Durling had touchdown receptions.
Cameron Wade led the defense with 10 tackles and a forced fumble. Mike Benson forced and recovered a fumble while adding 4.5 tackles. Jake Thomas had a sack and combined with Ed McNally for another.
