BERWICK - Time for a little hockey over the holidays?
The Central Kings Rural High School girls’ hockey team will be hosting a tournament at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick Dec. 27-28.
“It seems like the games are always exciting… teams love to come and play here in Berwick,” says head coach Bill Walsh.
“It’s always the highlight of our year because we get to host it.”
Eight teams have signed on for the tournament: CK, West Kings, Middleton, Horton, North Nova, Avon View, Northeast Kings and Yarmouth.
“We’re off to our best start in four years. The league in general… seems to be a little more competitive,” says Walsh, referring to the Valley High School Hockey League.
The Gators’ roster has players from grades seven to 12.
“The younger players have brought a certain energy level to our team and it’s great to see that these young girls… are competing with some of these older girls. It’s quite amazing considering that some of them are 12 years old,” he says.
“It’s been great to see.”
The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. Dec. 27, and the last game of the day is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The action returns at 9 a.m. Dec. 28, with the championship game slated for 3:15 p.m.
