Ken-Wo Golf Club members 17-year-old Zachary Forsythe, 16-year-old Heather McLean and 17-year-old Meghan McLean were recently named to Team NS.
“We are fortunate to have such talented young men and women representing the (Nova Scotia Golf Association) NSGA both provincially and nationally. They are exceptional young golfers on and off the course.” said David Campbell, Executive Director of NSGA in a recent media release.
“Having watched this program grow year after year and seeing firsthand the benefits it has had on team members has been an amazing experience.”
2017 will mark Forsythe’s first year on the provincial team. The Coldbrook resident tied for fourth place at the NSGA Junior Boy’s Championship and tied for 34th place at Future Links Atlantics.
The Port Williams-based McLean sisters are well known in the competitive golfing circuits, having both competed for Team NS for the last three years. Heather McLean has golfed in three Canadian Junior Girls’ Championships and was named the NSGA Girl’s Player of the Year in 2015.
Meghan McLean earned a spot at the 2016 Canadian Women’s Amateur and was awarded a golf scholarship to Central Connecticut State University beginning in 2017-18.
The provincial team’s training schedule began in December, starting with strength and conditioning work. The indoor technical training will begin in February, and the team’s focus will shift to tournament prep from April into the summer months.
The developing schedule includes stops at the Future Links Quebec in June, NSGA Cobra Puma Junior Championships and Future Links Atlantic in July, and Golf Canada Junior Championships in August.
“Whether they’re new or returning athletes, we’re very excited for this group,” said Andrew Noseworthy, NSGA’s Director of Sport Development.
“They are experienced competitors who are on the rise. This squad will surely be competitive and be proud representatives of Nova Scotia sport.”
